A new Scott Thomas AA200-15 Western all-around saddle with a 14.5 inch seat, at 30 to 40 lbs on an adjustable tree.

All-around is the shape to buy when you do several things with one horse: trail in the morning, arena work in the evening, a bit of ranch sorting at the weekend. The horn is a working horn and the seat is deep enough to be secure, without the specialist cut that makes a barrel or cutting saddle awkward outside its own job.

The adjustable tree matters more than most buyers realise. A horse coming into hard work puts on muscle across the shoulder and back, and a fixed tree that fitted in spring can pinch by midsummer.

Available in black, brown or chestnut. New.
