Crosby Monoflap Covered Leather Event Saddle

A monoflap event saddle does one thing differently from every other English saddle, and it is the reason to buy one: it takes a layer of leather out from under your leg. A conventional saddle has a flap and a sweat flap with the billets in between. A monoflap has one flap, with the billets underneath it. Your leg sits closer to the horse and you feel more of it.

The second effect is weight. This saddle is 10 to 12 lbs. A conventional close contact jump saddle is nearer 15 to 16. Across country, at the end of a long course, that difference is carried by the horse.

On fit, one thing worth stating plainly. This saddle is listed with a wide tree, but Crosby fit the Opti-Fit gullet system and every Crosby leaves the factory with a medium gullet in it. The gullet plate is changeable, so the width is adjustable rather than fixed – but you need to know which plate is in this saddle before you buy. Ask us and we will check it for you.

The seat comes in 17, 17.5 and 18 inch, in black or brown. Covered leather, so it grips from new rather than needing breaking in.

Best for: eventing, cross-country schooling, and riders who want a closer leg than a conventional flap allows.
Not for: a narrow-backed horse, or a rider who wants the security of a deep jumping seat.
