A 2017 Antares Confort in 17.5 inch, full calf leather.
The thing to understand about a used Antares: they are a French maker who build to measure, for a named horse and a named rider. That is what you are buying into second hand, and it cuts both ways. The craftsmanship and the leather are a long way above a production saddle at this price. But it was made to fit someone else’s horse, so the fit has to be checked properly rather than assumed.
Full calf leather is the first thing you notice. It is softer than standard cowhide, it grips from the start without needing to be broken in, and it does mark more easily – which is the trade a rider makes for that feel.
Before you buy: send us a wither tracing and photographs of your horse’s back and we will tell you honestly whether this one can work for you. On a made-to-measure saddle that conversation matters more than on any other.
Reduced from $2,700 to $2,430.
