What High Horse Is

High Horse is Circle Y’s second saddle line, built to bring Circle Y designs to a lower price. Most models use the High Horse DURAhide tree, which 26 of our listings describe, and 20 offer an extra wide tree fit alongside regular and wide.

They are practical saddles rather than show pieces. Twenty-five listings describe adjustable in-skirt rigging, and the new models that state a weight come in at about 20 to 30 lb, with most around 25 lb.

What to Check on a High Horse Listing

High Horse listings give full specs, which makes models easy to compare side by side:

  • Swell and cantle. The trail models we checked, such as Magnolia, Oyster Creek and Mineral Wells, list a 12″ swell and a 4″ cantle; the Proven Mansfield barrel saddle has a higher 5″ cantle.
  • Skirt. Trail models list a 12.5″ to 13″ skirt drop and a 25″ to 26″ skirt length, and the Oyster Creek uses a round skirt to suit short-backed horses.
  • Gear. Look for tie points, a crupper dee and fleece-lined skirts if you ride long distances.

  • The tree fits the horse. Choose regular, wide or extra wide, and check the gullet against your horse.

FAQs

High Horse Saddle FAQs

High Horse saddles are the value line from Circle Y, the Texas saddle maker. They use Circle Y designs and the High Horse DURAhide tree to bring the price down, and they come in cordura and leather trail, barrel, gaited, trainer and show models. In our stock the middle price is about $1,330, with cordura trail models starting under $1,000 and premium trail and show models reaching about $1,830.

High Horse saddles are made by Circle Y as its second line. Many of the new model listings here give the United States as the country of manufacture. Because they share Circle Y’s designs, you will see familiar features such as in-skirt rigging and regular, wide and extra wide tree fits, at a lower price than the main Circle Y range. Compare both on our Circle Y saddles page.

Yes, trail riding is what most High Horse saddles are built for: 29 of our 51 listings are trail models. The cordura trail saddles are the lightest and easiest to care for, while the leather trail models such as Little River, Big Springs and Sulphur River add padded seats and more tooling. Most offer tie points for gear. There is also a gaited version, the 6870 Round Rock, for gaited horses.

In our current stock the middle price is about $1,330, and prices run from about $665 to $1,830. Cordura trail saddles sit around $900 to $1,190, new leather trail and barrel models mostly cost $1,350 to $1,710, and used High Horse saddles have a middle price of about $1,095. That makes them one of the more affordable ways to get a Circle Y design.

Often, yes. About a third of our High Horse listings are used, with a middle price of about $1,095, roughly $400 less than new. Many used listings name the model, so you can check the specs against the new version. Look at the photos for a cracked tree, worn rigging and dry leather, and confirm the seat size and tree fit. Used saddles can be tried through our 14-day Test Ride Demo Program.
